A Hoeker is a roundbuilt threemaster from the seventeenth century. Originally a ship for 'hoekwant' (gill-net) fihing. It was later used for merchant shipping. In 1664 the VOC decided to use this type of ship in their fleet. From 1670 they were phased out of the fleet. They were then used in the second English-Dutch War after having been fitted with canons. -
